About

Tigh na Coille has been in our family since 1992. The Fleming family built it as a base, and by the 1960s it was home to engineers working on the ski lift at White Corries, now Glencoe Mountain Resort.

A little local history

At that time, the road to the front of the property formed part of the old route across Rannoch Moor, from Tyndrum to Glencoe. Today, this historic route forms part of the West Highland Way.

Our family bought Tigh na Coille from the Fleming family in 1992. The wider Fleming family included Ian Fleming, author and creator of James Bond - an interesting connection between this little Highland cottage and 007.

How the house was built

The design of the house is not unique. Tigh na Coille was built using a modular construction system called Dorran.

The Dorran system uses prefabricated concrete wall sections, allowing houses to be assembled relatively quickly. Several thousand Dorran houses were built across Scotland, so there are other properties that look almost identical to this one!

The modular design helped simplify the original construction process and continues to be useful when carrying out modern renovation works.
